Senior Actuary – Workers compensation

Permanent position – Sydney

The opportunity

Taylor Fry’s Injury Schemes practice is growing, and we are committed to investing in this growth. Our Injury Schemes team has identified a need for a general insurance Senior Actuary with accident compensation experience, preferably in workers compensation.

Our ideal hire is highly motivated: you see opportunity, love to innovate and you’re eager to support future business growth. This role will require you to leverage and develop your strong network to drive business development and client engagement. You’ll also scope and lead projects, and assist with the management and development of junior team members. In return for your commitment, we can offer you a flexible and collegiate environment where your contribution is valued. With bonuses based on firm profits rather than individual targets, you’ll have the freedom to make your own mark, with your career development trajectory supported and nurtured by your colleagues.

Our Injury Schemes practice offers client-focused solutions to governments and self-insurers across Australia and New Zealand. We cater to a range of demands, from conventional liability valuations to full-service offerings, with a focus on advanced analytics. As a senior member of the Injury Schemes team, you can expect to support projects such as scheme design and reform analysis, claims triage, claim pathways analysis, valuations, pricing and portfolio monitoring, and other services that give schemes and large self-insurers insights into scheme dynamics.

About us

We help business and government leaders see a clear way forward.

Taylor Fry’s actuarial and analytics consultants support our clients in making strategic decisions to enhance the financial health of their organisations, and benefit communities, people and society.

We are creative problem solvers – from physicists and engineers to mathematicians and computer scientists. This variety strengthens our advice to meet the needs of our clients and their customers.

Our innovations have led to changes in government policy in Australia and New Zealand, and continue to break new ground, particularly in the social sector. Qantas liked our approaches in analytics so much, it bought a 51 per cent stake in our business in 2015.

About our culture

Our firm was established so that staff would be encouraged and rewarded for being collaborative. We nurture our employees’ interests and support their growth and development. We’re known for doing great work, for our innovation and our thought leadership. Our people particularly love immersing themselves in the technical detail, which they can explore beyond day-to-day client projects by rotating in and out of research roles in our own research and development arm, TF labs.

We take an active interest in our people and their careers, and promote work practices that support wellbeing, mental wellness and work/life balance. The range of benefits we offer include flexible work hours, remote working, paid parental leave, bonuses based on profit share, as well as sporty and more relaxed social activities to suit your style.

Skills and experience

We are seeking candidates who have a minimum of 12 years’ experience gained in a consultancy or corporate environment, where the role required the cultivation and engagement of a strong network. Candidates will be Actuarial Fellows.

As Taylor Fry is a consultancy, it is imperative that candidates are strong communicators who have good interpersonal skills and are confident liaising with clients and identifying new opportunities.
